CONSULTATION
Our journey begins with a free personalized consultation. During this call, Jeff will walk you through the audiobook production process, answer any questions, and explore your vision for the project. We’ll also discuss whether you plan to narrate your audiobook or would prefer to work with a professional voice actor handpicked for your story.
PRE-PRODUCTION
This is where the foundation is laid. If you’re narrating, we’ll schedule recording sessions at one of our trusted partner studios. If you’re working with a narrator, we’ll present curated casting options and guide you through the selection process.
We’ll also conduct in-depth pronunciation research—including names, foreign words, technical terms, and more—which you'll have the opportunity to review. If your book contains visuals or complex formatting, we’ll create a thoughtful plan for how that content will be addressed in the audio format.
RECORDING
Recording is handled with the highest production standards. Your selected narrator will record under the direction of experienced professionals, or you’ll record at one of our vetted studios with expert engineering support. In both cases, we ensure clarity, consistency, and performance that reflects the tone and intent of your work.
POST-PRODUCTION
We apply a two-step, broadcast-quality post-production process:
Editing & Mastering – Your audiobook is edited for pacing, flow, and clarity. We remove mouth noise & other noises, clean up audio artifacts, and flag any misreads or pronunciation issues. Your audiobook is then mastered to meet distribution specifications across all major platforms.
Quality Control (QC) – A second specialist reviews the full audiobook to catch anything the editor may have missed.
AUTHOR REVIEW
Once post-production is complete, you’ll receive the full audiobook for review. This is your chance to experience the final product and ensure everything aligns with your expectations. If you notice anything out of place, we provide a simple format for submitting notes, and revised files are typically turned around within a few business days.
LAUNCH & DISTRIBUTION
As production wraps, we assist in setting up your distribution account. We’ll guide you through the pros and cons of exclusive distribution via ACX/Audible versus wider reach with platforms like Author’s Republic. Once you give final approval, we’ll upload the audiobook and cover art to your chosen distributor.
Distribution Only
$1,000
Designed for authors who have a completed audiobook and files prepared in accordance with publishing standards.
Lucent Audio will modify your cover to meet audiobook specifications, manage the distribution setup through Author’s Republic, our preferred distributor, or the distribution platform of your choice. We’ll oversee the upload of all necessary files, and upon completion, we will conduct a review to ensure the audiobook is properly published and accurately displayed across all platforms.
FAQs
-
You do—always.
Lucent Audio never claims any rights to your audiobook. It’s your work, your voice, and your creative property from start to finish.
-
The final runtime of your audiobook depends on your manuscript’s word count. A general rule of thumb is:
Word Count ÷ 9,000 = Approximate Hours
For example, a 90,000 word manuscript will result in an audiobook that's about 10 hours long.
-
From the moment we begin, you can expect your audiobook to be fully produced and ready for distribution within 2 to 3 months. This timeline includes casting, recording, editing, quality control, and author review.
-
Start by practicing your narration—daily, if possible. Read your manuscript out loud for extended periods to build stamina and develop consistency in tone, pacing, and expression. Choose a quiet space like a walk-in closet or small office, and load your manuscript into iAnnotate on a tablet. Use subtle visual cues—commas, underlines, or highlights—to mark where to pause, breathe, or emphasize.
Keep your delivery natural and conversational. Not every sentence needs dramatic weight. And remember: unless you're a trained actor, fiction especially benefits from a professional narrator. We're here to help you determine what approach best serves your voice—and your story.
-
Most authors record at a 3:1 ratio—meaning it takes about three hours in the studio to record one hour of raw audio. For a 10-hour audiobook, you’ll spend roughly 30 hours in the studio, typically scheduled across five 6-hour sessions.
-
Absolutely. If you're working with a professional narrator, we’ll present a curated list of voices that match your tone and genre. You’ll have the opportunity to review audition samples and make the final selection.
-
We work across a wide range of genres—from business, memoir, and self-help to literary fiction and fantasy. If your story deserves a thoughtful, professional approach to audio, we can help bring it to life—regardless of genre.
-
We tailor distribution based on your goals.
If maximizing revenue is your priority, we may explore exclusive distribution with ACX (Audible, Amazon, iTunes).
If wider reach is your aim, Author’s Republic distributes to nearly 60 platforms globally.
We’ll guide you through the pros and cons of each to help you make an informed decision.

While Lucent Audio focuses on production and distribution setup, we’re happy to refer you to trusted partners for marketing, PR, and audiobook launch strategy. You’ll also receive mastered audio clips you can use to promote your audiobook across your own channels.
